Surely you have seen your fair share of cakes in your lifetime, but have
you ever seen one that could have been mistaken for a slab of ribs?
Probably not, until now. Baker Debbie Goard has been making custom
sculpted cakes since 2006. They are desserts that look nothing like a dessert. continue (more pix).......
And these are not real shoes:
The Oakland, Calif., native started her career in an erotic bakery, which might explain the name of her current business, Debbie Does Cakes. If you live outside of the Oakland area, you're out of luck. The cakes are too fragile to ship.
Making the sugary works of art is no piece of cake: Even the simplest ones can take eight hours, and the more involved desserts can take weeks! Her favorite themes for the cakes are animals and food, which you can see by her portfolio. The only rule she tries to follow when making the cakes is to "always try to be better than last time." If you're inspired to make some of your own hyperrealistic cakes, you're in luck: Goard wrote a book filled with her know-how on the subject. It's called "Twisted Cakes: Deliciously Evil Designs for Every Occasion" (HarperDesign, 2012).
