2013 Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) Essay Competition for Nigerians

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Over the years, the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) Essay Competition inspires thousands of young people across Nigeria to showcase their practical knowledge of financial and capital market concepts learned in the classroom. The competition’s overall goal is to develop a culture of wealth creation amongst our youth – ‘Catching Them Young’.


This competition has been in operation since 2000 and has had over 10,000 entries from young writers in over 500 schools across Nigeria.
From 2013, the structure of the competition has been upgraded in order to engage more young people in our
operating environment. The competition is now targeted only at Senior Secondary School students and to reflect the new focus, the nomenclature has been modified to “NSE Essay Competition – Building a Financially Savvy Generation”.

ELIGIBILITY: The Competition is open to only students in Senior Secondary School in Nigeria.

Rules


  • The Competition is open to only students in Senior Secondary School
  • Entries must be written in English and be the original work of the writer
  • Entrants must submit essay on the competitions entry form and complete all the mandatory fields.
  • The maximum word-counts are 1000 words
  • Entries will be disqualified if they fail to meet these requirements


Notes for Guidance

  • Entries must be the original work of the writer.  This does not rule out input or assistance from others
  • Entrants are encouraged to be creative in their response to a topic
  • Entries must respond to the topic
  • Award-winning entrants are expected to show originality, focus on topic and competent use of English as a written language.  This includes correct spelling, a good standard of punctuation and neat presentation

Judging Criteria
Focus: Is the essay on-topic? Does it provide a comprehensive response to the question?
Structure: Is the essay written in a clear and organized way? Does it contain an introduction and a conclusion? Can the reader easily follow the flow of argument?
Research: Is there a use of a variety of sources to support ideas and analysis?

Analysis: Based on experiences and research, are there interesting and insightful conclusions?

Style and Grammar: Is the writing coherent and concise? Is the essay grammatically and mechanically correct? Correct spelling and punctuation.

Word Count: Adherence to the 1000 words for the essay as stipulated.
